To help preserve the terrain and provide a wilderness type experience, the Parks Branch has instituted a limit to the number of daily paddlers allowed to embark on the lake system.  With this they also started a reservation system, so that paddlers can reserve the departure dates which are best suited for them.

This Park Reservation System opens in January of each year and will only fill spots for the up and coming season, the months of July and August usually fill up first.   When making a park reservation you will be required to pay, up front, a reservation charge along with the Park Use Permit fee.  Be sure of your dates, and the number of paddlers before making the reservation, as any changes that need to be made afterwards will carry additional service fees.

It is recommended that you reserve at least 3 months in advance to get the dates you prefer.  The cutoff for reservations is 4 days ahead of your planned departure date, and they do not take tentative reservations.

It is not essential  to have a reservation to get onto the lake system, as the Park has decided that 4 spots a day should be left open for unreserved "drop-ins".  If you come unreserved your name will be put on the drop-in list.  When your name comes up, will depend on how many are on the list ahead of you.  During the busy season, be prepared to wait a day of two before getting out.  The longest wait so far has been four days.

You must make a reservation if you plan to paddle with a group of 7 or more paddlers.  14 persons is the group limit and If you have more paddlers then that,  you will be split into two groups.  Groups are given a camping itinerary which dictates where they must camp each night while on the chain, as there are only certain campsites that can accommodate them.
